Simply put, the NASB MacArthur Study Bible (pictured left) is the personal version of Dr. MacArthur.

All of the study notes contained is this Bible are from him. That can be a good thing or bad thing depending on your view of Dr. MacArthur.

While most enjoy the notes from MacArthur, who is widely known. Some disagree with his personality.

So who is he?

John F. MacArthur pastors Grace Community Church in California (Sun Valley). You can hear him on radio shows and he's authored many books, including the MacArthur New Testament Commentary series.

The NASB MacArthur Study Bible is full of his commentary from more than 35 years in God's service.

While some NASB study Bibles provide about 10,000 study notes, this one doubles that, so if you're a fan of in-text notes, this Bible might please you.

It also has a 200-page topical index, 155 charts and maps, special commentary and other features you'd expect in a good study Bible.

Study notes from NASB MacArthur Study Bible on this Bible verse:

1:2 - formless and void. This means "not finished in its shape and as yet uninhabited by creates." God would quickly (in 6 days) decorate His initial creation (Gen 1:2 - 2:3). DEEP. Sometimes referred to as primordial waters, this is the term used to describe the earth's water-covered surface before the dry land emerged (1:9,10). Jonah used this word to describe the watery abyss in which he found himself submerged (Jon 2:5). SPIRIT OF GOD. Not only did God the Holy Spirit participate in creation, but so did God the Son (Jn 1:1-3, Col 1:16, Heb. 1:2).
